Vintage Japanese black lacquer musical box. These keepsake boxes were hugely popular souvenirs crafted in Japan between the 1930's and 1970's. This particular style is circa 1950's to 1960's.

The hand painted lid depicts a classic Japanese landscape scene featuring a worker pulling a passenger in a rickshaw over an bridge with Mount Fuji in the background.

It has a winding key on the bottom of the box and when you open the lid music will play and the ballerina will twirl around.
